Description:

Native thistles (Cirsium spp.) such as field and swamp thistle are valuable to pollinators and birds; they generally grow as single plants (not spreading clonal patches) and often have woolly-white leaf undersides, unlike Canada thistle's green leaves and dense patches, so confirm before removing.

Nodding (musk) thistle (Carduus nutans) is a non-native thistle with large, often nodding purple heads on broad, smooth bracts, very different from Canada thistle's small upright heads and clonal growth.
